چکیده

A. Vaško, L. Trško, R. Konečná, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Žilina, Žilina, Slovak Republic The paper shows the influence of charge composition on microstructure, fatigue properties and failure micromechanisms of nodular cast irons. The additive of metallurgical silicon carbide (SiC) in analysed specimens increases the content of ferrite in the matrix, decreases the size of graphite and increases the average count of graphitic nodules per unit of area. Consequently, the mechanical and fatigue properties of nodular cast iron are improved. The best fatigue properties (fatigue strength) were reached in the melt which was created by 60 % of steel scrap and 40 % of pig iron in the basic charge with SiC additive.

The Effect of Carbides Morphology on Tribological Behaviour of Ni-Hard 4 Cast Irons

In this research the effect of volume and morphology of eutectic carbides on tribological behaviour of Ni-Hard 4 cast irons have been investigated. Therefore, as a result of the fact that the carbon content effects the carbides morphology of Ni-hard cast irons, the chemical compositions of five different specimens were kept constant with the exception of the carbon content, which was varied fro...

The Fracture and Fatigue Properties of Cast Irons Used for Trunk Mains in the Water Industry

In order to assess the remaining life of cast iron assets in the water sector, an understanding of their fracture and fatigue characteristics is necessary. The present work is concerned with the toughness and Paris crack growth behaviour of cast iron materials with a range of microstructures, taken from trunk mains currently in service. When considered with other data from the literature, the r...
